Massachusetts State Inspection

JST Automotive Center is a licensed Massachusetts inspection station. The state-regulated inspection fee is $35 for passenger vehicles. We perform inspections on a walk-in basis during our regular business hours. No appointment needed for most vehicles.

Massachusetts requires annual safety and emissions inspections for most vehicles. The inspection ensures your vehicle meets minimum safety standards and emissions requirements. Driving with an expired inspection sticker can result in fines and your vehicle being towed.

The safety inspection checks critical components including brakes, tires, lights, horn, windshield wipers, mirrors, seat belts, and steering. The inspector also checks for fluid leaks, exhaust leaks, and general vehicle condition. Your vehicle must pass all safety items to receive a sticker.

The emissions test uses an OBD-II scanner to check your vehicle's computer for emissions related trouble codes. If your check engine light is on, your vehicle will automatically fail the emissions portion. Vehicles model year 1995 and older are exempt from OBD testing but may require a tailpipe emissions test.

If your vehicle does not pass inspection, we can diagnose the problem and perform the necessary repairs right here. Many issues that cause inspection failure can be repaired the same day, getting you back on the road with a valid sticker. The re-inspection is free if done within 60 days at our station.
